Meet Leon

Michael Valdar Lewis Jr., also known as “Leon,” grew up in Smiths Station, Alabama, without formal artistic training. Inspired by dance movies like Honey, Step Up, and You Got Served, his love for movement deepened after watching So You Think You Can Dance (Season Four).

Without access to classes in his small town, Leon began teaching himself, but truly began to grow at age 19 when he moved to Los Angeles, California. There, he explored dance more seriously and discovered his unique voice as an artist.

Training & Artistic Exploration

In addition to dance, Leon studied Capoeira, Taekwondo, and MCMAP, enriching his movement vocabulary. But nothing compared to the joy of performing. He joined dance companies such as Go to Heaven Dance Company and C8 Dynasty and performed at:

  • World of Dance (twice)

  • Universal Sharp

  • Compton Showcases

  • Shut Up and Dance Showcase

  • Club Jete

  • Carnival (three times)

Professional Experience

Leon has:

  • Completed two tours

  • Choreographed multiple music videos

  • Created concept videos and workshops

  • Taught at LA Fitness and The Wellness Spot ATL

With over 3.5 years of teaching experience, every class Leon leads prioritizes inclusivity, mindset, and joy. He invites all to explore their passions through the art of dance.

Teaching Philosophy

Leon’s classes are a safe and inclusive space for everyone, regardless of background, identity, or experience level. Whether you are stepping onto the dance floor for the first time or returning after time away, Leon meets you where you are. His approach is rooted in patience, encouragement, and self-exploration. He believes that dance is far more than technique. It is a transformative journey that nurtures confidence, self-expression, and healing.

Every session is an invitation to be present, to feel, and to grow. Leon fosters an environment where you are not pushed beyond your limits but gently guided to discover new parts of yourself through movement. He encourages you to embrace the process, let go of judgment, and show up authentically as you are.

| “My only request is that you give yourself the opportunity to explore it all thoroughly through the art of dance.” – Leon
